I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Informatics (DI) and collaborating faculty of the graduate program in Informatics (PPGI) at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), Vitória/ES, Brazil. I previously was a research staff member at IBM Research (Brazil) working on a MCT/FINEP/FNDCT project about accessible vocational training. My research interests include: multimedia systems, document engineering and user-centered design. I am a SIGCHI Communication Ambassador since 2017 and, currently, I am involved in several academic and extracurricular activities, such as reviewer/member of technical program committee of a number of conferences and journals related to multimedia, the Web, and HCI.

I hold a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam (2014). My research work, which received funding from the European Community's Seventh Framework Programme (EU FP7), was carried out under supervision of Prof. Dr. Dick Bulterman and Dr. Pablo Cesar at the National Research Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science in the Netherlands (CWI). My thesis focused on the fact that the production and distribution of media content is not an exclusive domain of broadcasters and media professionals anymore. End-users have evolved from passive consumers of content to become more active actors in the media chain. They are increasingly producing content, distributing it and interacting through online communities. Apart from the underling mechanisms for navigating and reusing personal content, I argued that a new paradigm, Socially-Aware Multimedia Authoring, is necessary to better fit end-users' needs. During my Ph.D., I also had the opportunity to attend the Digital Media graduate program in the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) to work with Prof. Dr. Janet Murray, and intern in the Advanced Technology Lab at Samsung Research America (SRA).

I received the degree of Computer Engineer from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) in 2004. While in undergraduate school, I had the opportunity to participate of the Scientific Initiation Program (PIBIC/CNPq) and the Tutorial Education Program (PET) at UFES, and intern in the Accelerator Physics Group at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS). By the end of my undergrad studies, I worked as Software Analyst at Xerox (CDSV), developing e-statement and e-billing solutions for telecommunication companies. Then, I attended the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio, Brazil) on a CNPq scholarship, earning the degree of M.Sc. in Informatics (2007). From 2005 to 2007 I worked with Prof. Dr. Luiz Fernando Gomes Soares (in memoriam) at the TeleMídia Lab (PUC-Rio), where I was involved in many research projects on multimedia authoring and wrote my master's dissertation (Composer: an Authoring Tool of NCL Documents for Interactive Digital TV) on that topic.
